I initially trained as a Mental Health Nurse and have garnered extensive experience within the NHS, working across various settings, including acute care, rehabilitation, therapy, secure care, and community mental health services.
Following my nursing career, I pursued additional training as a Coach and Hypnotherapist, establishing my own practice to integrate these qualifications into my work. I am also trained in Solution Focused Therapy and have applied Dialectical Behavior Therapy in my practice. I hold a Post Graduate Certificate in Working with People with Personality Disorder from the University of Lancashire and have completed a year-long Foundation Course in Group Psychotherapy. Additionally, I possess a Diploma in Meditation.
My interest in working with individuals facing challenges related to alcohol consumption emerged during a personal journey in which I took a year off alcohol due to a physical health condition. This experience made me aware of the pervasive assumptions surrounding alcohol use; many people I encountered immediately assumed I had a problem. This led to candid conversations filled with stories of shame, regret, and concerns about their own relationships with alcohol—conversations I had with doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, and consultants during my time as a trainer in the NHS.
As I began to explore the societal context of alcohol consumption, I discovered a staggering reality: the dichotomy of "alcoholic or not" is increasingly blurred. Many individuals find themselves in a gray area—some with the habit of daily wine consumption, others drinking to excess—resulting in deterioration of their mental and physical health, anxiety, and depression, all within the bounds of what is considered "normal drinking."
Armed with my training in Coaching and Hypnotherapy, I began working specifically with those who identify as "gray area drinkers" seeking to transform their relationship with alcohol. Through this journey, I’ve learned that alcohol often serves merely as a symptom of deeper issues such as overwhelm, stress, anxiety, and burnout. My focus has shifted towards understanding and addressing the nervous system, integrating both body and mind to uncover the true root of the challenges my clients face.
This comprehensive approach has yielded remarkable success for my clients, fostering profound transformation in their lives. This is where real change occurs—at the intersection of awareness, acceptance, and empowerment.
